Built-In Home Function: Simplifying Motor Initialization with EZ Stepper and EZ Servos

The EZ Stepper and EZ Servo motor controllers are designed with convenience in mind, featuring a built-in home function that makes motor initialization fast and effortless.

How It Works

To initiate the homing sequence, simply use the Z command within your command string. For example: /1Z2000R

In this string, the value following the Z command (2000 in this case) instructs the motion controller on how far to move while searching for the home position.

What Happens During Homing

  • As the motor moves, it looks for the home flag to trigger the home optical sensor (opto).
  • Once triggered, the axis automatically decelerates to a stop.
  • If the home flag is already positioned in the opto, the controller first moves the motor away from home, then reverses direction and approaches the home again to ensure accurate positioning.

Result

Once homing is complete:

  • The position counters reset to zero.
  • Your controller is ready to move, accurately initialized and aligned.

Why It Matters

This streamlined homing process reduces setup time and ensures consistent positioning—ideal for applications where reliability and precision are key.
